Together: A Year of Gloriously Ordinary Co-production

Edgar Cahn calls co-production, “a different imagining of the world we know.”. Sometimes it is hard to imagine what that difference looks like or how it could possibly work. Together: a year of Gloriously Ordinary Co-production is for organisations who genuinely want to reimagine that world, alongside teams of other brave and curious people.

Scenes of everyday life. The text says "Gloriously Ordinary co-production" and "Together: A year of Gloriously Ordinary Co-production."

The programme challenges your organisation to commit to step into this different world and work out what it will take to make Gloriously Ordinary Co-production a reality.

It is an opportunity for you to think and work differently. You might be part of a local council, a third sector organisation, an NHS trust or a disabled or older people’s – led organisation.

We’ll spend a year together recognising how, as humans, we need each other and we’re better together, and exploring the best ways to get stuff done – effectively, inclusively, humanly.

About the programme

Tricia and Bryony explain what the programme offers.

By the end of our year together your organisation will:

  • Be able to understand and explain what Gloriously Ordinary Co-production means and why it matters

  • Have a clear, public commitment to Gloriously Ordinary Co-production

  • Have adopted radically different ways of seeing and working alongside people, families and communities across all layers of the Co-production Sandwich – paying particular attention to:

    • Planning for Gloriously Ordinary Lives with people

    • Moving beyond transactional commissioning

    • Finding the right people for the right jobs

    • Making the big, important decisions together

  • Have arrangements in place for recognising and rewarding the value of people’s work

  • Have increased confidence that you’re investing in what works and making the best use of your money.

This is how it works

As soon as your organisation enrols for the programme, you will identify someone to be your named lead. This person will have an initial chat with Bryony and Tricia to help us understand what you need from the programme. Your named lead will continue to have support and mentoring from Bryony and Tricia throughout the year.

Month one

We will launch the programme with a bespoke
co-production 101 session just for your organisation. This will be a half-day Zoom session with up to 40 people working in and drawing on support from your organisation – we call these your movers and shakers.

This session will get everyone on the same page about what co-production is… and isn’t.

By the end of this session, and in conversation with Bryony and Tricia, you will understand how co-production currently looks and feels where you live and/or work, and have agreed your core team of up to 8 people who will lead the work during our year together.

The rest of the year

Your core team will join the five teams from the other organisations who are part of the programme for monthly half-day (9.30am – 1.00pm) themed sessions exploring different elements of Gloriously Ordinary Co-production. After the session, you will get copies of all the content shared in the sessions.

Your core team and movers and shakers can also join monthly 2-hour peer-support sessions for people to bring and share what they are working on and get support from Tricia and Bryony and from each other.

We expect each team to use what they have learned and work together between sessions to try things out and demonstrate how things can change. Collecting and sharing stories is a key element of the programme.

After our year together

Your core team will be invited to monthly 1-hour check-ins with other Gloriously Ordinary
Co-production ‘alumni’ to continue to share stories and ideas.
